Valley Sun
2000
Programme notes
One day, a desperate choreographer called to say that he had a premiere in three days and no music. He had made the mistake of trying to use Beatles songs for a show about the Manson Family. That didn’t go over well with the Beatle’s publishers and they sent a fax to block it as soon as they heard about it.
I tried to help out by writing this cheerful ditty which I’m pretty sure replaced ‘Helter Skelter.’
Lyrics
Sharon, come out to play
Maybe tomorrow there’ll be hell to pay
But I feel fine today
Drive with me in the broad daylight
Ride with me, we can drop out of sight
I feel fine today
but I could feel better
In the heat of the valley sun
My heart has bled for you today
Open up your door, I wanna blow your mind out
open up your door, baby I time has come now
I feel fine today
but I could feel better
In the heat of the valley sun
My heart has bled for you today
Sharon, come out to play
Maybe tomorrow there’ll be hell to pay
But I feel fine today
Drive with me in the broad daylight
Ride with me, we can drop out of sight
I feel fine today
but I could feel better
In the heat of the valley sun
My heart has bled for you today
